The Trimontium Museum opens on Wednesday 1 April

The Trimontium Museum opened on Wednesday 1 April. It will be open for the season from 10:30 to 16:30, seven days a week until the end of October. Dr Fraser Hunter unveiled the bronze winejars - a must see - which are this season's 'iconic' objects from the Curle excavation of 1905-10. The guided Thursday Walks to the site (+ tea!) have started (1.30 - 17.15). It helps to explain the site of the Trimontium Fort.
The fort site is just up the road at the east end of Newstead Village. It is signed from the A6091. From Melrose itself take the low road past the Abbey and drive through the village till you see the replica Millennium Milestone. There is plenty of parking before you begin your walk round the site - and plenty of information on the boards.
The guided walks around the site take place during the season on Thursday afternoons from 2 April and on Tuesday afternoons also in July and August. Pick a nice day!.
